Did you know?

Fair Haven Schools are among the most efficient in the state. Our per pupil

cost of $8,834 is the fourth lowest in Monmouth County.

Fair Haven Taxpayers pay 91% of all school costs. The New Jersey average is

69%

60% of Fair Haven property taxes go directly to our schools – 45% to Fair Haven

Schools and 15% to Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School

What’s in the new legislation?

County-wide “super” superintendents appointed to oversee local school

spending and to promote regionalization of our schools.

Hard tax levy caps that will restrict school programs but won’t curtail property

taxes very much since Trenton has avoided its stated intent to create a new

school funding formula that addresses school aid distribution.

60% super majority vote required to approve “second questions” (separate

budget proposals or a proposal to exceed the 4% budget cap)

Income based property tax credit (or rebate check) of an average of $1,051

based on both the income of the tax-payer and the amount of the assessed

tax

More information coming from Trenton daily as the details of these plans are

ironed out.

What’s NOT in the new legislation?

A new, fair and stable funding formula. The current formula has not been used

in 5 years. Instead, funding of schools in many districts (including Fair Haven)

has been frozen, despite significant cost increases in the intervening years.

Due to the political challenges involved in addressing inequities across the

state a new funding formula is unlikely to be proposed until after the New

Jersey Assembly election this fall.

How could Fair Haven be affected?

Come hear from our legislators in Trenton and Fair Haven Schools

Superintendent Bill Presutti and learn how the new legislation will affect our

schools.
