Jackson, NJ -- School leaders from around the state gathered today to hear Education acting Commissioner Chris Cerf promote Governor Christie’s education reforms during a speech at  the New Jersey Association of School Administrator’s 2011 Representative Assembly at Jackson High School in Ocean County.

Acting Commissioner Cerf told the gathering of superintendents, principals, supervisors and directors that he is revamping the Department of Education to facilitate meaningful reforms that are focused on the academic success of children, while working to eliminate state requirements that generate paperwork without reflecting real results.

“The call to action is now,” said acting Commissioner Cerf. “Help me fix the system. You are the generals on the ground. Together we can make it work,” he told them.

 He also highlighted the Governor’s plan for increasing teacher effectiveness.

“We need to make accountability and performance the foundation of educator evaluations,” acting Commissioner Cerf said. “The single most important thing we need to provide, to ensure that our kids learn, is an effective teacher at the front of the room. Research has supported this.”
