5-5-09 Gov Corzine files Exec. County Sup't. Nominations

Office Of The Governor 5-5-09

GOVERNOR CORZINE FILES EXECUTIVE COUNTY

SUPERINTENDENT NOMINATIONS

TRENTON - Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced eight nominations

for Executive County Superintendent positions throughout the state.

Created through one of the key property tax reform measures enacted

during the Special Session on Property Tax Reform, Executive County

Superintendents are responsible for examining administrative and

operational efficiencies and cost savings within the school districts of

the counties they represent. With assistance from the Executive County

Superintendents, many districts already are instituting shared services,

bringing about millions of dollars in cost savings.

Each Executive County Superintendent has the authority to review

school district budgets and may disapprove portions if a district has

not implemented all potential administrative efficiencies or has

excessive non-instructional expenditures. This year, Executive Country

Superintendents stringently reviewed tax levy cap waiver requests,

reducing approvals by 65 percent. They also continue to fully examine

superintendent, assistant superintendent and business administrator

contracts to ensure accountability and efficient spending practices.

In addition, the Executive County Superintendents are responsible

for developing regionalization and consolidation plans, subject to voter

approval, to ensure further financial efficiencies.

County Superintendent and are subject to advice and consent of the
