Sept 2013 – Recently introduced legislation:

S2981 Ruiz Requires State Board to adopt standards and benchmarks of performance for the improvement of teacher  preparation programs and teacher certification candidates who complete the programs and develop a program rating system.  (This bill has already been introduced in the Assembly)

A4376 Burzichelli (D-3)
Prohibits boards of education from charging students a fee to participate in extracurricular activities.

 

A4385 Gusciora (D-15)
Provides that a school business administrator appointed by a school district after a certain date will not be eligible for tenure and may be dismissed pursuant to the terms of the employment contract.

 

A4406 Fuentes (D-5)
Requires public school districts to provide CPR training and certification as part of curriculum; requires DOE to provide CPR instructor training; requires certain teachers to obtain training in CPR instruction.

 

A4451 Singleton (D-7)
Establishes a loan redemption program for public school teachers who meet certain academic requirements and teach Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics subjects or special education.

A4452 Singleton (D-7)
Requires State Board of Education to adopt standards and benchmarks of performance for the improvement of teacher preparation programs and teacher certification candidates who complete the programs, and develop a program rating system.

 

The following bill was recently proposed for introduction in the Assembly.  It has also been proposed in the Senate.

 A4403 Albano (D-1)

Establishes Common Core State Standards Evaluation Task Force; delays use of assessments developed by Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers until task force submits final report.
