Star Ledger--School adds mental health to teachers’ training

As schools continue to ramp up security measures for students’ physical safety, some schools are also taking a look at students’ mental and emotional safety.

For the first time this year, the Cranford Public School District has implemented a youth mental health first aid program as part of its larger safety initiative.

Over the next few years, faculty will participate in an eight-hour course that teaches staff how to understand and respond to possible symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse. The training is part of the National Council For Behavioral Health’s mental health program.

Education Week--Principals, You Are the Most Trusted Professionals

Congratulations, principals. Americans trust you. They trust you more than police, more than military leaders, and not surprisingly, more than journalists and members of Congress.

In fact, principals, the American public gives you high marks for being honest with information and how you handle public resources, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

Maybe it's time to ask for that raise. Here's a closer look at how the public views you.
