Star Ledger--School adds mental health to teachers’ training
As schools continue to ramp up security measures for students’ physical safety, some schools are also taking a look at students’ mental and emotional safety.
For the first time this year, the Cranford Public School District has implemented a youth mental health first aid program as part of its larger safety initiative.
Over the next few years, faculty will participate in an eight-hour course that teaches staff how to understand and respond to possible symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse. The training is part of the National Council For Behavioral Health’s mental health program.
