Star Ledger--School district was counting on $30M. It’s suing the state after lawmakers said no.

School officials in Lakewood have filed a federal discrimination lawsuit over the state’s failure to provide an additional $30 million in funding.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Trenton, alleges violations of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1977 Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA).

NY Times--Do You Support Busing?’ Is Not the Best Question

Issues of educational inequality raised by a 1970s-era practice remain relevant today, but language can obscure what’s really at stake.

In the short time since Kamala Harris and Joe Biden tangled over the history of busing in the first Democratic primary debate, the question has awkwardly shifted to the present.

Busing is still needed today, Ms. Harris has since said. But discussion of just what that would look like has appeared to make both candidates uncomfortable on the campaign trail. That is not the right question for this moment,…

NPR--Kindness Vs. Cruelty: Helping Kids Hear The Better Angels Of Their Nature

This story was adapted from an episode from a Life Kit podcast, Parenting: Raising Awesome Kids.
