NJ Spotlight--Murphy Scraps Christie’s Salary Cap for School Superintendents
Nine years after former Gov. Chris Christie limited how much New Jersey superintendents could be paid, his successor ends the restriction
Nine years ago, almost to the day, then-Gov. Chris Christie turned New Jersey school administrative pay on its head when he announced a $175,000 cap on superintendent pay — a figure equal to his own salary.
On Friday, Gov. Phil Murphy — without fanfare — signed into law an end to the cap, an almost inevitable conclusion for a measure that had run its course but also left a lasting mark.

Star Ledger--There is no maximum salary any longer for NJ school superintendents
Gov. Phil Murphy on Friday signed a bill doing away with a $191,584 cap on school superintendent salaries in New Jersey, killing one of former Gov. Chris Christie’s most controversial education policies.
The law bars the state Department of Education from setting maximum salaries for superintendents while, at the same time, setting guidelines for school executive contracts to limit or standardize bonuses, golden parachutes and other fringe benefits.

Edutopia--Study Strategies Beyond Memorization
Using a metacognitive exercise helps students know what they should and shouldn’t study.
Metacognition, or thinking about how one thinks, is a useful skill for improving comprehension and learning. It can be especially useful for review in advance of an assessment. Once students learn how to monitor their own progress and apply specific review strategies based on their needs, they are empowered to effectively and efficiently prepare for assessments.

NPR--Parents, Sometimes You're The Problem When It Comes To Tech Use
Elise Potts picked up her 17-month-old daughter, Eliza, from daycare recently. When they got home they were greeted by a strange scene.
"My husband ... he's waving his arms around like a crazy man." Potts says. "He has these things in his hands, he has a black box on his face ... and [Eliza] looks and she points, all confused, and she says, 'Daddy?' "
Daddy, it turned out, had a new Oculus virtual reality headset.
