Governor has sole authority to certify revenues. But, if Senate President is successful, that won’t be the case for much longer

New Jersey’s governor would no longer be able to wield an important budget-making power — one that governors here have held for decades — under a proposed constitutional amendment that Senate President Steve Sweeney hopes to put before voters as early as this fall.

Star Ledger--This plan affects your kids and your taxes. Now Murphy's going to make it a law

Gov. Phil Murphy on Tuesday will sign an all-important school funding bill that will have a ripple effect on public schools -- and taxpayers -- for years to come. 

The bill (S-2) sets New Jersey on the path to redistributing school aid among hundreds of districts and also mandates future tax hikes in some communities.

Education Week--Majority of States Fall Short on Special Education Compliance, Ed. Dept. Says

Twenty-nine states and the District of Columbia need some help from the federal government in meeting the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, according to assessments of state performance released earlier this month by the U.S. Department of Education.
