2-1-12 Assembly Education Committe to Hold Hearing on Charter School Initiatives
The Assembly Education Committee on Thursday will consider a package of bills to strengthen the development and authorization of charter schools in New Jersey. The hearing is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, February 2, in Committee Room 11 on the fourth floor of the State House Annex. It will be streamed live at www.njleg.state.nj.us.(per Assembly Democrats release)


The committee will consider the following bills related to charter schools:
• Creates greater accountability and transparency of charter schools and their operations. (A-2147). Sponsored by Assembly Democrats Albert Coutinho (D-Essex) and Mila Jasey (D-Essex/Morris).
• Requires final voter approval at the annual school election or by the board of school estimate before the establishment of a charter school (A-1877). Sponsored by Assembly Education Chairman Patrick J. Diegnan, Jr. (D-Middlesex), Peter Barnes III (D-Middlesex), John S. Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), Ralph Caputo (D-Essex), Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) and Jasey.
