Education Week--Can Bite-Sized Lessons Make Social-Emotional Learning Easier to Teach?

Teaching social-emotional skills in class sounds great, and the idea has a broad and growing following in K-12 schools.

In practice, however, executing evidence-based strategies to teach skills like empathy and self-control to students can be challenging for schools, and prohibitively so.

Chalkbeat--How Khan Academy, the popular free tool for students, wants to play a more official role in America’s classrooms

When teachers in Compton Unified School District first started using Khan Academy, they deployed the online learning tool on their own — allowing students to use its tutorial videos to review concepts and practice key skills.

But that started to change two years ago, when district officials saw Khan Academy had launched a partnership with Long Beach Unified, a neighboring school district. Greg Puccia, a Compton schools official who oversees curriculum, called up Khan Academy to see if his district could strike a similar deal.

Edutopia--Using Digital Tools to Promote Social and Emotional Learning

Educators can take advantage of digital tools that students want to use to enhance social and emotional learning efforts.

As a researcher on digital learning, I was intrigued by the release of a new guide called Reclaiming Digital Futures, which is an effort to help community-based organizations integrate digital learning into their programs. My interest was piqued because the researchers behind this guide had unearthed ways that digital learning can support the fostering of social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.
