Star Ledger--Christie dumps president, VP from state Board of Education
TRENTON -- In a span of three days this week, the state Senate removed the state Board of Education's president and vice president at the request of Gov. Chris Christie.
The controversial moves on Monday and Thursday come as Christie attempts to remake the board with a flurry of nominations before he leaves office, a tactic that has raised concerns about transparency and confounded the board's former leaders.

Star Ledger--The controversial N.J. school funding deal, explained
TRENTON -- As New Jersey's budget deadline approaches, millions of dollars in state funding hangs in the balance for local schools.
A deal cut between New Jersey's top Democrats would boost the state's overall school spending, but reduce state aid to some districts in a controversial plan that hinges on approval from Gov. Chris Christie.
But Republican lawmakers have denounced the plan, and the governor is insisting that Democrats get onboard with his own contentious initiatives, leaving budget talks in limbo.

Education Week--Google Docs Fuels Shift to Collaborative Classroom Writing
Collaborative tools, and Google Docs in particular, have shifted the way students write, collaborate, and get feedback and editing from teachers. It's the first thing nearly all teachers interviewed for this story mentioned when asked about the use of educational technology in literature and writing instruction.
"Google Docs and the whole G Suite system for English classrooms is revolutionizing the way we interact with each other and create," said Bill Bass, the innovation coordinator for instructional technology, information, and library media for the Parkway school district in Chesterfield, Mo., and a former English teacher. "That collaboration is key to helping kids make authentic connections with text and information."
