S1701 EMAILNET Alert – 11/28/05

Please take a moment to pick up the phone and call the Senate Education Committee member offices to register your concern that there are no amendment bills scheduled for hearing this Thursday in the Senate Education Committee meeting. Add that fuel and energy costs have soared and that districts need immediate relief in 2 ways: (1) an increase in allowable surplus that would provide budget flexibility when these kind of unpredictable costs occur so that programs and class size will not be jeopardized, and (2) a less restrictive ability to transfer from line items or surplus to pay for unanticipated increases in the energy categories, as well as a cap waiver for these unpredictable cost drivers in the future.

Members of the Senate Education Committee and their phone numbers are:

[Democrat]   Senator Shirley Turner, Education Committee Chair,   609 530 3277

[Democrat]   Senator Wayne Bryant      856 234 8080

[Democrat]   Senator Nicholas Scutari   908 587 0404

[Republican] Senator Robert Martin       973 984 0922

[Republican[ Senator Joe Palaia            732 531 1303
