1-7-09 'Meeting to Discuss Tight School Funds'
Asbury Park Press Wednesday, January 7 LITTLE SILVER: The borough's Parent Teacher Organization will hold a public information meeting Monday to discuss the possible impact of the state's financial crisis on public education funding.

The presentation will begin at 8 p.m. at the Markham Place School, located between Branch and Prospect avenues.

Special guest speakers include Lynne Strickland, executive director of the Garden State Coalition of Schools, and state Sen. Jennifer Beck, R-Monmouth, who will report on current legislation that affects school funding.

The coalition is a statewide volunteer association comprised of parents, board of education members and school administrators.

Little Silver PTO Announcement:

"January 12th PTO meeting

On January 12th, the PTO will host their monthly meeting at the Markham

Place School.  There will be two special presentations at that meeting.

First, Lynne Strickland, Executive Director of the Garden State Coalition

of Schools will be joining the meeting.  As Executive Director of the

Garden State Coalition of Schools, Lynne represents 115 New Jersey school

districts and their communities, including Little Silver.  GSCS is a

statewide, grassroots volunteer association, primarily suburban.

Volunteer members are a unique combination of parents, board of education

members, and school administrators.  The Garden State’s mission is high

quality education for all children; its focus is equity and excellence,

with a persevering eye on school finance.  As spokesperson for GSCS, Lynne

leads public awareness campaigns and seeks to educate members, the public

at large and the legislature on school finance issues.  Lynne has

established a Trenton advocacy office and is recognized for her state

level data and school finance analyses.  During the January 12th PTO

meeting, she will provide an overview of current legislative issues and

their impact on our district.

Jennifer Beck.
