The New Jersey Department of Education (“the Department”) released the Evaluation Research and Policy Development Memo on February 5. The following topics are addressed:

· The publication of three reports that address the first year of the teacher evaluation pilot (2011-12) and the national impact of new teacher evaluation systems:

o The Evaluation Pilot Advisory Committee (EPAC) Interim Report

o The Rutgers University Graduate School of Education (RUGSE) Year 1 Report

o Culminating Findings from the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) Project’s Three-Year Study

· Background and context for development of evaluation policies and a timeline of activities to date

· Descriptions of common themes from all three reports and the steps taken by the Department to address challenges and make improvements prior to statewide rollout of new evaluation systems

· An explanation of next steps in the development and communication of evaluation policies for SY13-14
