SUMMIT — N.J. Commissioner of Education Bret Schundler will speak at the Garden State Coalition meeting Summit @ Summit, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March. 2 at Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School, 272 Morris Ave.

Shundler, the former Mayor of Jersey City, was appointed by Governor Chris Christie as New Jersey Commissioner of Education.

“We are looking forward to having Mr. Schundler speak to our membership and to interested community members about what lies ahead for education in New Jersey,” said Lynn Strickland, executive director of the Garden State Coalition of Schools.

The Garden State Coalition of Schools is a statewide grass-roots advocacy organization that promotes educational practices, reasonable state regulations and state laws that further high quality education for all children. The organization’s primary focus is the interrelated issues of academic achievement, education practices, and school finance.

The coalition is comprised of more than 100 New Jersey school districts from Bergen to Camden counties. Its volunteers come from the ranks of parents, board of education members and school administrators. The Summit Public Schools was a charter member of the coalition when it was established in 1992.
