State employees can donate unused time off to a co-worker who has exhausted all their own allotted leave in New Jersey under an existing employment regulation, but now lawmakers want to see that longstanding policy become codified as a matter of law.

Star Ledger--Why these babies and toddlers in New Jersey are getting off to a rocky start in life

There are 310,000 children under the age 3 living in New Jersey — more than the population of Newark, the Garden State’s largest city.

The state’s leading child advocacy group today released a “state of the state” data report on babies and toddlers, and found ample reasons to be concerned too few are getting the right start in life.

Education Week--To Stop School Shootings, Fla. Will Merge Government Data, Social Media Posts

As part of their efforts to prevent school shootings, Florida lawmakers mandated the creation of a centralized database that will combine individual-level records from the state’s law-enforcement and social-services agencies with information from people’s personal social media accounts.
